Inpatient Coder

Fulltime/Permanent

100% remote

Job Summary:
The Inpatient Coder Level 2 performs independent coding of inpatient medical records, ensuring accuracy assigning ICD-10-CM and ICD10-PCS codes for inpatient hospital encounters in compliance with official coding guidelines, regulatory agencies, and hospital policies. This role requires prior coding experience and strong knowledge of DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) assignment, clinical documentation, and coding compliance.

Job Responsibilities:

• Proficient understanding of complex clinical scenarios including comorbidities and complications.
• Ability to analyze detailed clinical notes and identify relevant clinical indicators for coding accuracy.
• Performing and responding to documentation queries.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.
• Basic auditing skills and quality assurance participation.
• Problem-solving and critical thinking.
• Professional communication with physicians and healthcare teams.
• Ability to work independently.
• Identify cases requiring provider documentation clarification and collaborate with the CDI team.
• Meet and maintain established coding productivity and accuracy standards.
• Assist in mentoring Level 1 coders or new team members as needed.

Required Education:

• High School Diploma

Preferred Education:

• Associates degree in HIT or related field

Required Certifications & Licensure:

• CPC
• RHIA
• RHIT
• CCS OR CIC Certification
